Super Mario 64
Yes, this game is somewhat old. But I do not think of it has old in a bad way, but I do consider this game more of a retro-veteran.
Super Mario 64 was probably what inspired:
Luigi's Mansion (Game Cube)
Super Mario Sunshine (Game Cube)
Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)
and most certainly:
Super Mario 64 DS (DS)
The beginning starts as Mario receiving a letter from Princess Toadstool Peach. It's a welcome invitation, inviting Mario to stay over for a visit. As Mario arrives, he is alarmed to find the Princess missing. He searches the castle franticly, and finally comes across a note from the Princess. It says "Mario! Please help me! Bowser has captured me and all of the stars that power this castle. Please retrieve the stars back where they belong!" With determination, he starts of at the first level....
This is one of the most classic games of the Nintendo 64. At this time, the many things Mario could do was completely revolutionary. Traditionally from the even more classic NES version, (Super Mario Bros.) A is jump, and B is attack. However, taking advantage of all of the buttons on the Nintendo 64 controllers, he has many new abilities to. Like: Long jumping, punching, kicking, crawling, back flipping, a 3-linked jump that makes him go higher, Turning pure metal, going threw walls, and flying.
What makes this game great is that it is the old style of Super Mario Bros, as in levels and Bosses, as coin collecting. And the game play is good, and rewarding. Collecting stars, beating bosses, exploring new places, and powering up.
To earn the stars, you must fight bosses, go threw complex mazes, complete tasks, and collect different items. Some stars are easier to get then others. There are 7 stars per level, and 15 hidden stars that you find linked to the castle. For every level, you must find 8 red coins for a star, and 100 regular coins for a star. But usually getting the stars is unique for each level.
Overall, I would rate this game a serious 8.8/10. Maybe more. This game is certainty one game you will want to try out for yourself. As they say, know you roots!
Rumors
For quite a while now, people have claimed that Luigi is in the game too. There have been many myths as to how to "unlock" Luigi. Is Luigi real or not?
Well, first let's look at the evidence why Luigi might be in this game. Well...for a fact there is a statue outside called "The Eternal Star Statue". What is so special about it? Well, it has these words imbedded on it: L is Real 2401. People think that that is saying that Luigi is in the game. Why? Because they symbolize the L in L is real part to mean "Luigi is real". Also, in some of the power up boxes your can actually see Luigi's full body if you look at it right. It's sort of a glitch, but you can see it. Another thing is that if you take the game apart (Witch we do not recommend), you can see Luigi's form on the circuits and such.
Well what is it! Is it true that you can unlock Luigi? Well...I'm getting there. But first let me say that Super Mario 64 was meant to be a two-player game at first. It started as a coop-based game. But the truth is...No. You cannot unlock Luigi. It's a fact. Some people have pre-programmed the game to include Luigi, but remember this was not built into the game. However, Luigi does appear in the game, not as a character, but as a sort of a tool for the landscape and such. It's a very complex subject, so I will not go there.
